Seventh Honor from Conference so far this Year

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman forward Phoebe Staenz (Zürich, Switzerland) was honored by ECAC Hockey on Wednesday, earning her second straight conference Rookie of the Month honor for her performance the past month.  Staenz had seven points (2-5-7) in January despite playing in only six games due to her obligations with the Swiss National Team.

After returning from playing for Switzerland at the Nations Cup the first weekend in January, Staenz started her scoring binge with an assist in Yale's game at Dartmouth Jan. 10. The following weekend she had a goal and two assists as the Bulldogs tied then-No. 6 Clarkson and St. Lawrence. Staenz then added another goal, and two more assists, as the Bulldogs went undefeated (1-0-1) in a home-and-home series with Brown Jan. 24-25.

Staenz had a team-high 36 shots for the month, 11 more than any other Bulldog. She had a +4 rating, tied for the third-best mark on the team.

For the year, Staenz leads Yale in goals, assists and points (9-14-23). She is tied for 11th in the conference in assists and is 12th in the conference in points.

This was the seventh ECAC Hockey award of the season for Staenz, who has been selected to play for Switzerland at the upcoming Olympics in Sochi, Russia. She was ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Month for December and has earned five weekly honors (four Rookie of the Week Honors and one Player of the Week honor).

The monthly ECAC Hockey awards are determined by a vote of the league's coaches.
