NEW HAVEN, Conn. - McGill outshot Yale 33-16 en route to a 4-1 win over the Bulldogs in an exhibition game Sunday afternoon at Ingalls Rink. Freshman Jackee Snikeris (17 saves) and senior Shivon Zilis (12 saves) split time in net and allowed two goals each. Sophomore forward Mandi Schwartz scored Yale's goal, assisted by freshman defenseman Samantha MacLean.

"It was good to get in some real game situations," said Yale head coach Hilary Witt. "There are obviously some things we need to work on, but you can only get better if you play."

The Bulldogs hurt themselves with 10 penalties, none more costly than the hitting from behind and game misconduct call against junior defenseman Helen Resor that ended her day just 9:18 into the game. By then the Bulldogs were already down 1-0, as McGill's Catherine Ward scored 2:53 into the game. The Martlets added another one by Cathy Chartand at 14:37, but Snikeris kept her team in the game by making 14 of her saves in the first period -- including 10 on power play shots.

Midway through the second Zilis came on in relief of Snikeris as designed, with the Bulldogs giving each goalie equal time in preparation for the regular season. After allowing two quick goals, Zilis settled in to make one save in the second and 11 in the third.

"Jackee played well," said head coach Hilary Witt. "I also thought Shivon did a good job coming off the bench cold."

McGill started Canadian Olympian Charline Labonte in goal, and she made 13 saves before Catherine Herron came on for the third period. The Bulldogs finally got on the scoreboard when MacLean sent a high shot from the blue line on net and Schwartz deflected it in at 10:21 of the third.

Yale opens the regular season Friday with an ECAC Hockey game at RPI (7:00 p.m.).
