NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Junior goaltender Shivon Zilis made 34 saves, including 15 in the third period, to lead Yale to a 3-1 victory over Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon at Ingalls Rink.
With the score tied 1-1, freshman forward Mandi Schwartz chipped in a deflected puck to give the home team the lead at the 8:34 mark of the second period. The play started when sophomore defenseman Helen Resor fired a shot that was deflected by freshman forward Denise Soesilo in front of the Bobcat goal. Schwartz then had the puck and an empty net to pot the game winner.
Soesilo put the game out of reach with an empty net goal at the 18:51 mark of the third. She was alone at the top of the crease after a feed from senior forward Kristin Savard.
The teams traded goals in the first period as senior forward Sheila Zingler gave Yale a 1-0 lead, firing in a breakaway goal at the 16:13 mark. Quinnipiac evened the score just two minutes later when Elyse Cole scored on a power play.
Resor finished the game with two assists while Bobcat goalie Laura Brennan made 18 saves.
The Bulldogs return to the ice on Sunday at 2:00 pm against the Princeton Tigers at Ingalls.
