PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Two power-play goals - one right before the end of the second period and an empty-netter right before the end of the game - gave Providence a 3-1 win over Yale Friday night at Schneider Arena. The Bulldogs had taken a 1-0 lead on a goal by Sarah Tittman assisted by Kristin Savard at 11:39 of the first, but Providence responded with tallies by Sonny Watrous (9:49 of the second), Ashley Payton (19:23 of the second) and Kristin Gigliotti (19:19 of the third) for the win.
Sarah Love made 29 saves for Yale (2-5-2), while Jana Bugden made 23 for Providence (7-3-2). The Friars were 2-for-7 on the power play, while Yale was 0-for-8.
Yale remains in Providence for a neutral-site game against Niagara Saturday at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast as USCHO.com's Game of the Week starting at 3:50 p.m.
