Snikeris Snags ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week Honor
Jan. 28, 2008
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Freshman Jackee Snikeris (Downingtown, Pa.) has been named ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week. Snikeris recorded her fourth shutout of the season Saturday, moving to within one of the school record, as Yale beat Cornell 5-0. Snikeris finished with 28 saves, holding the Big Red scoreless on four power plays. She has not allowed a goal in her last 121:18.
Snikeris has won four straight starts, including three shutouts. She has stopped 95 of 97 shots (.979) in that stretch and posted a goals-against average of 0.49. For the year her save percentage is .928, good enough for eighth in the country. Her 1.80 goals-against average is lower than any Yale goalie has finished a season at (June Mendoza '80 had a 1.98 mark for a 13-game season in 1978-79).
Prior to Yale Snikeris was a five-time USA Hockey Player Development camp selection. An All-New England selection for Taft, she also played for the Connecticut Polar Bears.
Snikeris is the second Bulldog to win ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week, as senior Shivon Zilis (Markham, Ont.) won it Nov. 26. Snikeris and freshman forward Bray Ketchum (Greenwich, Conn.) have combined to take home five ECAC Hockey weekly awards, including four Rookie of the Week honors.
