NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Freshman forward Crysti Howser (Wilmette, Ill.) has been named ECACHL Rookie of the Week after picking up seven points in two games. Howser, who is currently fifth in the conference in points per game (1.18), helped the Bulldogs to a pair of wins that extended the team's unbeaten streak to six, tying a school record.
Howser's weekend started with two goals (including one short-handed) and an assist in Friday night's 6-0 win over Union. All three of her points came in the third period. She then tacked on a goal and three assists in Saturday's 9-1 victory over the Dutchwomen. Howser had a +6 rating for the two games and won 40 of 52 faceoffs.
Howser missed the first seven games of this season while playing soccer and helping Yale to the third round of the NCAA tournament for the first time. Despite missing those games, she is tied for the team lead in points (9-11-20 in 17 games). Her .65 assists per game is best amongst ECACHL freshmen.
Howser was first team All-Ivy and the Ivy League Rookie of the Year in soccer, and won the Ivy League's Rookie of the Week award three times in that sport. This is her second ECACHL Rookie of the Week award.
Yale travels to Brown Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. game.
