Lake Placid, NY - Three Yale recruits - Crysti Howser (Wilmette, Ill.), Sarah Tittman (Chilton, Wisc.) and Maggie Westfal (New Canaan, Conn.) - are at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid this week taking part in the USA Hockey Player Development Program's Girls' Select 17/18 Festival. The festival includes some of the top young players in the country divided up into eight teams for a five-day tournament that runs June 26-30.
Howser, who is on the Orange team, has also been a part of the Olympic Development program in soccer and intends to play both sports at Yale. She played hockey for Assabet Valley in Massachusetts, the same program that produced current Bulldogs Helen Resor, Nina Resor and Kristin Savard along with incoming Bulldog Carry Resor.
Tittman, who is on the Purple team, was named all-Midwest Elite Hockey League as a member of the Wisconsin Wild. She also was a four-time state qualifier for Chilton High's track and field team, participating in sprints, jumps and the shot put.
Westfal, who is on the Purple team with Tittman, plans to play both hockey and soccer at Yale along with Howser. She won multiple state and regional championships while playing hockey for the Connecticut Stars.
The Bulldogs have been busy on the national team scene of late. Helen Resor helped the U.S. to its first-ever gold medal in the IIHF World Women's Hockey Championship in April. The U.S. roster for that event featured several players who have competed in the Olympics and provides a preview of what the team might look like for the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin, Italy, next February.
Further information on the festival, including box scores and stats, is available on the USA Hockey website 17/18 festival page.
