Bryant Visits Reese Stadium Wednesday Afternoon

Bulldogs vs. Bulldogs in Non-conference Game

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's lacrosse team returns to Reese Stadium Wednesday at 4 p.m. for a non-conference game vs. Bryant. The visitors from Rhode Island, who are also called the Bulldogs, are in their fourth season as an NCAA Division I team after six straight winning seasons at the Division II level. The game will be video streamed live on Yale All-Access.

Yale (1-1, 0-1 Ivy League) is coming off a heart-breaking 9-8 loss at No. 16 Dartmouth in the Ivy League opener. The Bulldogs fell behind the Big Green 3-0 but eventually fought back to tie the game 8-8. Dartmouth then scored the game-winning goal with 2:12 to play.

Freshman midfielder Cathryn Avallone (Manhasset, N.Y.) had a three-point day at Dartmouth, and has scored two goals in each of her first two games. Another freshman, attacker Kerri Fleishhacker (Manhasset, N.Y.) made her Yale debut last Saturday with a pair of goals.

Overall, 16 of Yale's 25 goals this year have come from freshmen or sophomores. Avallone's four goals for the season have her tied for third on the team with senior attacker Caroline Crow (Davidsonville, Md.), Yale's captain. Sophomore midfielder Ashley McCormick (Paoli, Pa.) and junior attacker Devon Rhodes (E. Northport, N.Y.) lead the team in goals with five each. McCormick also leads the team in caused turnovers with four, and she has already equaled her total in that category from last season.

Bryant (0-3, 0-1 NEC) last played an Ivy League opponent Mar. 20, 2011, falling to Brown 14-4. The Bulldogs started last season 1-7 but went 7-1 the rest of the way (scoring double-digit goals in each of their last five games) to finish 8-8. This season they opened with a 14-5 loss to Holy Cross, which Yale beat 17-13 Feb. 25. They also lost 11-5 at Central Connecticut and 8-7 vs. Navy.

Lauren Filippone was named NEC Defensive Player of the Week after a 16-save performance vs. Navy. She is the reigning NEC Goalkeeper of the Year, and has a .542 save percentage so far this year.

Yale departs for Florida at the end of this week, and the Bulldogs will play Notre Dame in a neutral site game as part of the "Spring Fling" tournament at Delray Beach on Mar. 13.
