Yale Mentor Helping Pick U.S. Roster for World Cup

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Anne Phillips, Yale's Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach of Women's Lacrosse, is in the process of helping select the roster for the 2013 U.S. National Team that will play in the World Cup next summer. Phillips is the Selection Chair for US Lacrosse, a role she has held since 2008.

The first round of tryouts for the U.S. team was held in May at Stony Brook. The second round of tryouts is being held this weekend at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. US Lacrosse lists 82 players on the final tryout list on its website.

During Phillips' tenure as Selection Chair, the U.S. won the World Cup in 2009 and the U19 World Championship in 2011. The U.S. has won the World Cup, which takes place every four years, six times since the event debuted in 1982. The 2013 World Cup will take place at The Civic Recreation Center in Oshawa, Ont., July 11-20.

Phillips is entering her fifth season at Yale. Prior to joining the Bulldogs, she led Franklin & Marshall to an NCAA Championship and was the IWLCA Division III National Coach of the Year in 2007.
