Aug. 11, 2008

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale women's lacrosse team earned 2008 Division I Academic Squad honors for its performance in the classroom, the IWLCA announced Monday. The Bulldogs were one of 50 schools honored nationwide. In addition to the team honor, defender Katie Wiacek (Potomac, Md.) '08 was one of 159 individuals named to the IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Roll.

Wiacek, who graduated with a B.A. in architecture last spring, was a regular on the Yale defense and helped the Bulldogs to an 11-5 record, a No. 17 ranking in the IWLCA poll and the fourth-best goals allowed average in the country (7.45 goals per game). She had 18 ground balls and six caused turnovers. Wiacek appeared in 48 games for her career, including 15 each in the last three years.

Teams that have a collective GPA of 3.0 or greater earn the distinction of Academic Squad.
