No. 6 Bulldogs Split Between Massachusetts and New York for the Weekend

NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The No. 6 Bulldogs will set sail at two regattas this weekend. Half of the team will go outside of the region to Ithaca, N.Y. to sail at Cornell in the promotional Finger Lakes Women’s Intersectional, while the other half will sail on the mighty Charles River at Boston University in the Regis Bowl.

The Bulldogs usually only compete at one regatta per weekend but with two available regattas they will be able to exhibit their wealth of female skippers and crews.

The Finger Lakes Intersectional will take place on the south end of Cayuga Lake in 420s. Last year, the Finger Lakes Intersectional was sailed at Hobart and William Smith. Because there were only nine teams at the regatta, it was sailed as combined divisions, which means that both divisions sailed together in one fleet. Skippers Jane Macky ’09 and Kate Hagemann ’09 and crews senior Marla Menninger and junior Elizabeth Brim took home the win by placing second and third.

Because Cornell is not in the New England region, the Bulldogs will get to sail against some new faces. It will also be exciting to be sailing at Cornell, which has a new sailing center and a great venue that hosted the National Singlehanded Championships last year.

Meanwhile in Boston, the other half of the team will be sailing in the Regis Bowl. Held in FJs on the Charles River at the Boston University sailing site, the Regis Bowl should have some great competition.

Last year, the Bulldogs placed 10th at the shifty and puffy venue. Senior Sarah Lihan and junior Tatyana Camejo were sixth in A division and senior Rebecca Jackson and sophomore Alexandra Kerr were 11th in B division.

The Bulldogs should have an exciting weekend displaying their depth of talent. Racing will start at 9:00 a.m. at Cornell while sailing at Boston University will kick off at 9:30 a.m.
