NEW HAVEN, Conn.- At the New England Championships this past weekend, the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association announced first team crews, first and second team skippers, rookie of the year, sportsman of the year, and sailor of the year. Three Bulldogs, senior Sarah Lihan, junior Elizabeth Brim and freshman Claire Dennis, were named to the teams.
After being named to the second team skippers All New England last year, Lihan moved up to the first skipper team this year. Lihan had an impressive year and was named NEISA women's sailor of the week three times with Brim. Highlights included winning A division at the Navy Fall Women's Intersectional as well as at Yale Women's, the lone home regatta for the Bulldogs all year.
Brim was named to the first team crew all New England for the second year in a row, having garnered the award while sailing with Kate Hagemann '09 last year. She sailed with Lihan all year compiling impressive results in both fleet and team racing.
Dennis was named New England rookie of the year putting her at the top of the class of 2013. She was also named to the second team skippers All New England. Dennis finished second at Women's Singlehanded Nationals in the fall as well as compiling impressive results in doublehanded events with freshman crew Heather May including a fourth place in B division at the New England championships last weekend.
Obviously the ultimate goal of the season is to repeat as the National Champions. However, these awards give the Bulldogs another feather in their caps as they prepare for the National Semi-finals in Wisconsin May 25 and 26.
