NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 1 Yale women's team is headed to Boston, Mass., this weekend to race for the President's Trophy at Boston University. This will be the team's last regatta before the Women's New England Championship which takes place next weekend and is the first step in qualifying for the nationals.
Last year the Bulldogs won the President's Trophy by 62 points. Half of the members of that victorious team were seniors that have since graduated.
This year, a squad of underclassmen will compete for the Bulldogs. Sophomores Marly Isler and Astrid Pacini will skipper A and B division respectively, with freshman Clara Robertson and sophomore Megan Valentine as crews. Freshman crew Isabelle Rossi de Leon will also travel with the team and substitute in if the conditions require it.
Isler and Robertson helped the Bulldogs to victory at the Charleston Women's Inter-conference Regatta a few weeks ago. They finished fourth in B division at that event and have been major contributors to the women's team's success since the fall.
Pacini and Valentine will be making their major-inter-conference-regatta debut this weekend. The sophomores have been sailing well all season and are looking to conquer the challenge of the Charles River.
It is forecasted to be a nice weekend for sailing with temperatures reaching the high-60s for the first time in a while. Saturday is supposed to see moderate wind from the East and a stronger southerly is predicted for Sunday.
