Howser became only the second player in school history to be named Ivy League Rookie of the Year last fall. She also was a finalist for the Soccer Buzz National Freshman of the Year, earned first team All-Ivy recognition, was an NSCAA Northeast Region third team selection and was the Soccer Buzz Northeast Region Freshman of the Year. Her nine assists led the Ivy League and were the second most in a season in Yale history. She finished with 25 points, which was third in the Ivy League and she was tied with teammate Emma Whitfield for third in the league in goals with eight. Her biggest assist of the season came on Laurel Karnes's goal with one second left in the second half as Yale edged Duke 2-1 in the second round of the NCAA College Cup. She had a pair of two-goal games, against Central Connecticut and Quinnipiac, and was chosen as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week three times. Two of her eight goals were game-winners. Howser also plays ice hockey at Yale and was an honorable mention All-Ivy selection in her first year after leading the team in scoring with 26 points (12 goals, 14 assists). She starred in soccer at New Trier Township High School, which was ranked No. 1 in the country in two of her years and won back-to-back state championships. A center midfielder, she registered 30 goals and 18 assists as a senior and was named all-state for the second time. In addition, Howser has been an Olympic Development regional team member since 1999.
