Season Kicks Off On Sept. 4 Against Wagner
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - New Haven area fans will have plenty of opportunities to watch the Yale women's soccer team this fall. Twelve of the 17 games on the 2009 schedule will be played in the friendly confines of Reese Stadium.
The season kicks off against Wagner on Sept. 4, the first of five straight home games. Hofstra (Sept. 6), Sacred Heart (Sept. 10), Northwestern (Sept. 13) and Stony Brook (Sept. 16) complete the homestand.
The Bulldogs' first road game will be a challenge - at UConn on Sept. 20. The Huskies edged Yale 2-1 last year after tying the score in the last second of regulation and then getting the game-winner early in the second overtime.
After a visit from Quinnipiac on Sept. 22, Yale opens Ivy League play with a trip to Princeton on Sept. 26. Three of the last four games between the Bulldogs and Tigers have been decided by one goal. Harvard, which shared last year's Ivy title with Princeton, comes to New Haven on Oct. 3. Yale then hosts Central Connecticut on Oct. 5 and Dartmouth on Oct. 9.
The Bulldogs play Holy Cross for the first time since 2002 in Worcester on Oct. 14. The Crusaders will be under the direction of first-year coach Darren Gallagher. Yale looks for its third straight win over Cornell on Oct. 17 before hosting Marist in the final non-conference game of the year on Oct. 21. The Bulldogs won the only previous meeting with the Red Foxes, 7-0 in 2000.
Yale's only back-to-back road games come against Penn (Oct. 24) and Columbia (Oct. 30). The season then concludes against Brown on Nov. 7 at Reese Stadium.
The Bulldogs return eight starters from last year's team that finished 8-7-2 overall and 2-4-1 in Ivy play.
