NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale women's soccer team will look to rebound from Wednesday's disappointing 4-1 loss to Holy Cross when Cornell visits on Saturday. Kickoff at Reese Stadium is slated for 4:30 p.m.
The Bulldogs (7-4) can ill afford another letdown. Yale and Harvard share the Ivy League lead with 2-0 records. The Crimson host Brown on Saturday and then come to New Haven on Tuesday to make up the game that was postponed on Oct. 3.
It would seem Wednesday's performance was an aberration for the Bulldogs, who had allowed only six goals in their first 10 games before yielding four to the Crusaders. For the season Yale, which received votes in this week's NSCAA national poll, has outscored its opponents 22-10.
The Big Red (1-9-1, 0-3 Ivy) opened Ivy play with a pair of one goal losses, 1-0 to Columbia on Sept. 25 and 2-1 to Penn on Oct. 2. Cornell dropped a 2-0 decision to Harvard last Saturday. Three players - Maneesha Chitanvis, Hannah Labadie and Sidra Bonner - share the team lead with two goals. Samantha Wright has a team-high three assists. Kelly Murphy has started nine games in goal and has a 1.49 goals against average.
Yale has won the last two meetings with the Big Red, including a 3-1 decision last fall in Ithaca, N.Y. Emma Whitfield '09 scored twice and Miyuki Hino added one goal in the victory for the Bulldogs. The all-time series between the schools is tied 14-14.
