Brown Selected To Mid-Atlantic Second Team; Merrifield Chosen To Third Team

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Two Yale women's soccer players have earned 2009 NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors. Becky Brown, who led the Bulldogs in scoring, was named to the second team, while Sophia Merrifield, who anchored the defense, was a third team selection.

Brown, a junior forward from Lawrenceville, N.J., was the Ivy League Player of the Year. Her 13 goals were second in the Ivy League and tied for the fourth most in a season in Yale history. Her 30 points were also second in the league and the fourth most in a season in school history. Three of her goals were game-winners, and she had her first career hat trick in a victory over Sacred Heart. Brown will enter her senior season with 25 career goals, 14 shy of Elizabeth Traver's school record. Brown also is tied for fifth in career assists (17) and sixth in career points (67).

Merrifield, a senior defender from Honolulu, Hawaii, was a first team All-Ivy selection. She played a key role on a Yale defense that posted seven shutouts. In her career, she started all 67 games she appeared in.

Yale finished the season with a 10-6 overall record and a 5-2 Ivy League mark, which was good for second place. The Bulldogs have now won at least 10 games in four of last six years.
