NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Over the years, the Yale women's soccer team has tested itself against schools in many of the top conferences in the nation, but never the Big Ten. That will change on Sunday when Northwestern visits Reese Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m., and live stats for the game will be available at yalebulldogs.com.
So far in 2009, the opponent hasn't mattered much to the Bulldogs, who are coming off a 7-0 thrashing of Sacred Heart on Thursday and have outscored their first three opponents 12-0. Becky Brown had three goals in the win over the Pioneers and now has six goals on the season after scoring five all of the last year.
Sunday's game is the second of two straight against Ivy League opponents for Northwestern, who play at Penn on Friday night. The Wildcats (1-3-1) picked up their first victory on Sept. 4 when Kay Simpson scored in overtime to beat Loyola, Chicago. Carolyn Edwards has started NU's first five games in goal. She has two shutouts and a 1.51 goals against average. Northwestern has eight games on its schedule against teams that reached the NCAA College Cup last year.
