Forster Named Ivy League Rookie Of the Week
Scored Winning Goal In Overtime Victory Over Cornell
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Freshman Kristen Forster made her first career goal an important one. It came 2 minutes, 7 seconds into overtime and lifted the Yale women's soccer team to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Cornell on Saturday. Forster was rewarded for her play by being named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week today.
The winning goal came when she settled a pass, took a few dribbles to free herself from traffic and fired a shot past Cornell goalkeeper Megan Bartlett at 92:07. Forster, who leads the Bulldogs with six assists, has proven to be very versatile for head coach Rudy Meredith. Earlier in the season when injuries hit Yale's back line, Forster moved to defense and performed well.
Forster is the fourth Yale player to be honored this year. Ayana Sumiyasu (Sept. 28) and Becky Brown (Sept. 14) were selected as Player of the Week, while Mary Kubiuk (Sept. 28) earned Rookie of the Week honors.
The Bulldogs (8-4) are 3-0 in Ivy play and host Harvard on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Reese Stadium. The Crimson is also 3-0.
