Gavin, Speck Earn Postseason Honors
Both Named All-New England; Gavin Selected NSCAA All-Region
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The postseason honors continue to come in for the Yale women's soccer team. Freshmen Melissa Gavin and Meredith Speck are the latest to earn recognition for their strong rookie seasons. Both were named to NEWISA All-New England first team, while Gavin also was selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Mid-Atlantic Region third team.
Gavin, who led the team with seven assists, started all 17 games, finishing with six goals and 19 points, which were both second on the team. Three of her goals and three of her assists came in Ivy play, and she was the top scoring freshman overall in the league. The Bulldogs were 4-1-1 in games where she scored a goal. She also was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year and was a first team All-Ivy selection.
Speck, who also earned first team All-Ivy recognition, made an immediate impact for the Bulldogs, scoring the game-winning goal in her first career game against Marist. She started all 17 games and finished with four goals and four assists.
