Eight Home Games On Tap At Reese Stadium
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A two-game trip to Chicago highlights the 2012 Yale women's soccer schedule. The Bulldogs will play at Loyola, Ill., on Sept. 7 before a trip to Big Ten rival Northwestern two days later. In all, Yale has 17 games, including eight in the friendly confines of Reese Stadium.
The season kicks off with a road game at Hartford on Aug. 31. The home opener is set for Sept. 4 against Sacred Heart.
The trip to Illinois is a homecoming for four Yale players. Muriel Battalia (Hinsdale), Mary Kubiuk (Barrington), Lauren Mathy (Kenilworth) and Georgiana Wagemann (Lake Bluff) all hail from the state. The Bulldogs will be playing both schools for the second time in school history. Yale beat Loyola 1-0 in the 2003 ECAC Cape Cod Classic and dropped a 1-0 decision to Northwestern in 2009 at Reese Stadium.
Iona is the only first-time opponent on the schedule. The Bulldogs host the Gaels on Sept. 14.
In addition to Hartford and Sacred Heart, Yale will also play state rivals Central Connecticut (Sept. 16) and Fairfield (Oct. 22).
Ivy League play begins on Sept 22 with a home date against Princeton. The Bulldogs also have home league games against Penn (Oct. 20) and Columbia (Oct. 27).
In a bit of a scheduling quirk, Yale plays Brown twice in four days. The Nov. 1 game in Providence serves as the official league game, while the teams will end the regular season three days later at Reese Stadium.
Yale finished with a 9-5-3 overall record and a 4-2-1 Ivy League mark last year. The Bulldogs were 5-1-1 in their last seven games and have now finished with a winning overall record in nine of the last 10 years.
