Yale Playing Third Game In Five Days To Open Season
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Paula Hagopian is off to a strong start for the Yale women's soccer team. She assisted on the game-winning goal in Friday's victory over Hartford and then scored in Sunday's 2-1 loss to Stony. On Monday she was rewarded by being named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
Hagopian played a key role in Yale's dramatic victory over Hartford. With time running out, she sent a cross into the box to Kristen Forster, who banged it in with 26 seconds remaining.
Against Stony Brook, Hagopian scored her first career goal with six minutes left. It tied the score at 1-1. After Stony Brook took the lead, Hagopian nearly provided more late game heroics, but her shot in the final minute deflected off the post.
Forster was also honored by the Ivy League. She was named to the Honor Roll.
Both Hagopian and Forster will be back in action on Tuesday when the Bulldogs host Sacred Heart at 7 p.m. at Reese Stadium.
The Pioneers (2-2) have won two straight games after opening the season by playing two games in Hawaii. Jennifer Mulvey leads the team with three goals.
