Bulldogs Off To Windy City For Pair Of Games

Yale Plays Loyola, Ill., Friday; Northwestern Sunday

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Four Yale women's soccer players may have a little extra bounce in their step this weekend. Illinois natives Muriel Battaglia, Mary Kubiuk, Lauren Mathy and Georgiana Wagemann will be playing in their home state when the Bulldogs face Loyola, Ill., on Friday at 7 p.m. CDT and Northwestern on Sunday at noon CDT.

All four are significant contributors for the Bulldogs. Battaglia, a Hinsdale, Ill., native, scored her first career goal in Tuesday's 3-0 victory over Sacred Heart. Last fall as a rookie, she started all 17 games. Kubiuk, a senior from Barrington, Ill., has scored 10 goals in her time at Yale. Mathy, a senior from Kenilworth, Ill., has helped anchor Yale's defense throughout her career. She has started the first three games this season after starting 14 times last fall. Wagemann, a sophomore from Lake Bluff, Ill., has appeared in every game since arriving at Yale.

The Bulldogs (2-1) will be looking to build on the momentum from Tuesday's victory over Sacred Heart.

Loyola (1-4) opened the season with an impressive 1-0 victory over DePaul but has lost its last four straight, all on the road against challenging opponents, including Iowa and Wisconsin.

Northwestern will take 2-2-1 overall record into Friday's game against Northern Illinois. The Wildcats have scored two goals in four of five games so far this year and currently has a 1.60 goals per game average, far exceeding last year's 0.68 goals per game average.
