Three Yale women’s soccer players have earned All-Ivy recognition. Forward Melissa Gavin and defender Meredith Speck were both named to the first team, while midfielder Shannon McSweeney was a second team selection.

Jeffrey Scores In Final Career Game But Bulldogs Fall At Brown
Juliann Jeffrey scored in her final career game, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Yale women’s soccer team to victory. The Bulldogs dropped a 2-1 decision at Brown in the season finale for both teams.

Brown won a majority of the scrums in the box at both ends of the field, and the result was a 3-1 victory over Yale on a chilly night at Reese Stadium.

Senior Night Highlights Final Weekend
The Yale women’s soccer team ends the 2013 season with a pair of games against Brown this weekend. The two teams play the game that counts in the Ivy League standings Friday at 7 p.m. at Reese Stadium and then meet in Providence on Sunday in a 1 p.m. kickoff.

As has been the case throughout the season, Columbia was very efficient Saturday against Yale. The Lions had 16 shots but scored on three of them en route to a 3-1 victory at the Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium.

Coxe, Battaglia Named Academic All-District
Frannie Coxe and Muriel Battaglia each have made key contributions to the Yale women’s soccer team this fall. They’ve also been successful in the classroom. As a result both were named to the Capital One Academic All-District I first team.

The Yale women’s soccer team plays its second straight Ivy League road game on Saturday at Columbia. Kickoff at the Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium is slated for 1 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for 7 p.m. but was changed recently.

The Yale women’s soccer team came within 21 seconds of posting perhaps its most impressive win of the season. Instead, it turned into a frustrating night for the Bulldogs, who were forced to settle for a 1-1 tie with Penn on a picture perfect evening at Rhodes Field.

There is nothing Yale women’s soccer coach Rudy Meredith stresses more than the importance of scoring first. His team hasn’t always been able to deliver this season, but that is starting to change. For the second straight game, the Bulldogs got the first goal, and in this case the only goal, in a 1-0 victory over Cornell on Saturday night at Reese Stadium.

The Yale women’s soccer team was very efficient Monday night at Marist. The Bulldogs managed only eight shots, but four of them found the back of the net. The result was an impressive 4-0 victory over the Red Foxes on a chilly night at Gartland Athletic Field.

There has been no stopping junior forward Melissa Gavin since she has first stepped foot on the field for the Yale women’s soccer team. In 2011, Gavin became just the fourth player in Yale history to be named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year. This past weekend, Gavin scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season to help the Bulldogs to a thrilling overtime victory against defending Ivy champion Princeton. Paula Hagopian has made a habit of scoring big goals this season for the Yale women’s soccer team. She struck again Saturday, notching the game-winner in overtime as the Bulldogs knocked of defending Ivy League champion Princeton 3-2. Fairfield Scores Late First-Half Goal To Sink Yale
A disturbing trend has emerged as the Yale women’s soccer team prepares for next Saturday’s Ivy League opener against Princeton. In each of the last two games, the Bulldogs have allowed a goal in the final minute of the first half. It was particularly damaging on Sunday against Fairfield as it turned out to be the only goal of the game as the Stags edged the Bulldogs 1-0.

Bailey, Butwin Join Yale Coaching Staff
There will be a pair of newcomers to the Yale women’s soccer coaching staff this season, but they won’t be unfamiliar faces. Cailean Bailey, who has spent the last two years as an assistant coach for the Yale men, will now be assisting both programs, serving as the goalkeeping coach for the women. In addition, Jenny Butwin ’13, the captain of the women’s squad last year, will return to the program as a volunteer assistant coach.

Ames Named WPSL Goalkeeper Of The Year
Rachel Ames, who was in goal for every minute of Yale’s seven Ivy League games last fall, has earned a big honor this summer. Ames was selected as the Women’s Premier Soccer League’s Southern Conference Goalkeeper of the Year. She also was a first team all-league selection.

Seven Home Games Highlight 2013 Schedule
It won’t take long for Yale women’s soccer coach Rudy Meredith to get a gauge of his 2013 squad. Two of the Bulldogs’ first three opponents made the NCAA Tournament last year. The 17-game schedule kicks off with a home game against Stony Brook on Sept. 6. In all, the Bulldogs will play seven games in the friendly confines of Reese Stadium, where they went 6-2-1 last year.
