Tournament Set For July 26-29 In Florida
The National Women's Soccer League's North Carolina Courage have announced their 21-player roster for the first-ever International Champions Cup Tournament, and two former Bulldogs earned a spot. Meredith Speck '15 and Carlin Hudson '18 will play for the Courage when they compete in the tournament at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, from July 26-29.
The Courage open the competition on Thursday against Paris Saint-Germain at 6:15 p.m. On Sunday, North Carolina faces either Manchester City or Olympique Lyonnais in the third-place or championship game.
Speck has been a regular in the Courage's lineup throughout the 2018 season. She has appeared in 14 games, including making two starts. Speck is one of only three three-time first team All-Ivy selections in Yale history. In her career, she played in 56 games, scored seven goals and added 15 assists. She also was named first team All-New England three times and was invited to participate in the 2014 New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association Senior Bowl.
Hudson signed a national team replacement contract with the Courage last week after training with the club throughout the season. At Yale, she earned All-Ivy recognition three times during her career, including first team recognition last fall as a senior. As a freshman, she was named honorable mention All-Ivy after playing all 710 minutes in seven Ivy games. After missing her sophomore season, she returned in 2016 and earned second team All-Ivy honors. In her time at Yale, she played in 50 games, started 49, scored two goals and added four assists.
Following the tournament, the Courage resume NWSL play against Portland Thorns FC on Sunday, Aug. 5.
