NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Yale plays its final non-conference game of the season on Wednesday night when Central Connecticut visits Reese Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. and live stats of the game will be available from GameTracker.
The Bulldogs (7-5-2) hope the weather is nicer than during Saturday's scoreless tie with Penn when nearly 40 mile-per-hour wind gusts made for difficult conditions. Goalkeeper Ayana Sumiyasu, who was named to the Ivy League Honor Roll on Monday, made four saves to post her fourth shutout of the season. Sumiyasu has helped anchor a Yale defense that has allowed only one goal in its last three games. She is third in the Ivy League in saves (54) and tied for third in shutouts.
Central Connecticut (9-5-4) has won six of its last seven games. The Blue Devils' biggest win of the season came early when they upset then 11th-ranked UConn 2-1 in Storrs. Rachel Caneen, one of only three players to start all 18 games, leads the team in goals (8) and points. Erin Herd has started 11 games in goal and has a 0.68 goals against average.
The Bulldogs and Blue Devils have played four times in the last three years. Last year in New Britain, Maggie Westfal scored the only goal of the game in the 30th minute as Yale escaped with a 1-0 victory.
