Complete 2010 Yale Softball Schedule

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - There is a new look to the Yale softball schedule for 2010. The Bulldogs begin the season by participating in tournaments at Stetson (Mar. 12-14) and Stony Book (Mar. 19-21). In addition, the back-to-back doubleheaders with Ivy League South Division opponents Columbia and Penn and Cornell and Princeton will be played on consecutive Fridays and Saturdays. In all, Yale is scheduled to play 42 games, including seven doubleheaders in the friendly confines of Dewitt Family Field.

The Bulldogs begin the season against UConn at the Stetson Classic in DeLand, Fla., on Mar. 12. Yale and the Huskies will be playing for the first time since 2004. The teams will meet twice in the tournament. The Bulldogs also play Stetson twice in addition to a game with Bethune-Cookman. The following weekend, Yale heads to Long Island for a Stony Brook Tournament that will have a Connecticut flavor as Quinnipiac and Fairfield also will be participating. The Bulldogs play the Bobcats twice and Fairfield once in addition to games against Stony Brook and Holy Cross.

After a trip to Marist on Mar. 24, Yale plays its home opener against Army on Mar. 27. The Bulldogs have won nine straight games against the Black Knights. A doubleheader at Fairfield on Mar. 31 is the final tuneup before the start of Ivy League play. Yale opens on the road against Columbia and Penn.

The Bulldogs then start a six-game homestand with Providence on Apr. 7. Yale's first home Ivy weekend will be a challenge as perennial South Division powers Cornell, which won last year's Ivy title, and Princeton visit New Haven.  On April 14, the Bulldogs play the team that knocked Cornell out of the NCAA Tournament last spring, Sacred Heart. Ivy North Division action begins with a four-game series at Dartmouth on Apr. 17 and 18. The final non-league games of the season take the Bulldogs to Staten Island to meet Wagner on Apr. 21. Yale and Harvard meet in a four-game series on Apr. 24 and 25.

The Bulldogs then conclude the season with a home-and-home series with Brown. Yale swept all four games from the Bears last year.

The two division winners meet for the Ivy League title on May 7 and 8.

The Bulldogs return 12 letterwinners from last year's team that finished 22-22 overall and 11-9 in Ivy play. Yale has won at least 20 games in each of the last four years.
