NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The start of the Ivy League season is just a few days away and the Yale softball team has one more chance to work out the kinks to get ready. Weather permitting, Yale plays a doubleheader at Fairfield on Wednesday. The first pitch of the first game at Alumni Field is slated for 2:30 p.m.
Fairfield topped the Bulldogs 1-0 on Mar. 20 at the Stony Brook Invitational. Since then, Yale has won four of six games, raised its team batting average by nearly 50 points and lowered its earned run average by almost one full run.
The Stags (11-13) are coming off a doubleheader loss to Harvard on Saturday. Dani Griswold leads the team in batting (.382), hits (29) and doubles seven. Sarah Minice anchors Fairfield’s pitching staff. She has 78 strikeouts in 85 innings.
Minice came on to get the last three outs to preserve the 1-0 win over Yale. Freshman Jackie Manzer was the hard-luck loser for the Bulldogs. She allowed only two hits over six innings. Ashley Sloan and Meg Johnson both had two hits for Yale. Liz Tutino and Christy Nelson also singled.
Yale leads the all-time series with the Stags 36-20.
The Bulldogs begin Ivy play with doubleheaders against Columbia and Penn on Friday and Saturday.
