HANOVER, N.H.  – Home runs played a key role in Dartmouth's doubleheader sweep of Yale on Sunday at Sachem Field. The Big Green hit three in the first game en route to an 11-3 victory, and Molly Khalil blasted a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth inning of the second game to give Dartmouth a wild 10-9 victory.

The Bulldogs also used the long ball to their advantage. Kelsey Warkentine hit a three-run homer and Meg Johnson added a solo shot in the second game. For Warkentine, it was her first career round-tripper. Johnson finished 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Yale (9-20, 4-6 Ivy) scored twice in the first inning of the first game to grab the early lead. Katie Yanagisawa singled and Ashley Sloan walked to start the rally. Christy Nelson knocked home the first run with a ground out, and Kayla Kuretich added an RBI single.

Christy Autin's three-run homer in the second gave the Big Green (9-20, 7-3 Ivy) the lead, but the Bulldogs tied it in the third. Allie Canulli singled but was erased on Kuretich's fielder's choice. Johnson followed with an RBI double to right field.

Dartmouth answered with four runs in the bottom of the third and then scored twice in the fourth and fifth to end the game.

Yale banged out 14 hits in the second game. Canulli, Holly Gutterud and Liz Tutino each had two.

The Bulldogs had an 8-2 lead, but the Big Green scored five times in the sixth and once in the seventh to tie.

Chelsea Janes gave Yale a 9-8 lead with an RBI single in the eighth, but Hillary Hubert's RBI triple tied it again in the bottom of the eighth, setting up Khalil's heroics in the ninth.

A four-run third inning helped the Bulldogs to the early lead. Warkentine's homer was the big blow.

Johnson led off the fourth with her home run. Lexi Peacock was hit by a pitch leading off the fifth and scored on Johnson's single. Tutino added an RBI single and Janes knocked in a run with a ground out in the sixth for the Bulldogs.

The same two teams will play another doubleheader on Monday beginning at 2 p.m.
