Bulldogs Begin Preparation For Upcoming Season
Season Kicks Off Mar. 6 At Rebel Games In Florida
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The unseasonably mild weather has New Haven residents dreaming of spring. The Yale softball team is always thinking spring on Feb. 1, regardless of the conditions outside. That date serves as the official first day of practice.
This year, the preparations for the start of the season will have a different feel. The Bulldogs will be practicing at CFC Arena, an indoor facility in Hamden, Conn., a couple of times a week. Yale will continue to utilize Coxe Cage as well.
With seven starters and 11 letterwinners returning, there is plenty of optimism surrounding the Bulldogs. Three players were named to the CollegeSportsMadness.com 2012 Ivy League Preseason All-Conference Team. Pitcher Chelsey Dunham was selected to the first team, while shortstop Meg Johnson and centerfielder Tori Balta were second team selections.
Yale kicks off the season on Mar. 6 against South Dakota at the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Fla. The Bulldogs are scheduled to play 10 games in Florida before returning for the home opener on Mar. 15 against Central Connecticut. Ivy League play begins on Mar. 30 at Columbia.
