First Pitch Of First Game Slated For 2:30 p.m.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A busy week for the Yale softball team starts Wednesday at Dewitt Family Field. The Bulldogs host a doubleheader with Marist. The first pitch of the first game is slated for 2:30 p.m.

Yale, which plays at Bryant on Saturday before hosting Providence on Sunday, hasn't played since splitting a doubleheader with Central Connecticut last Thursday. Marist, on the other hand, is just back after spending a week in Hawaii. The Red Foxes played in the Malihini Kipa Aloha and Hawaii Spring Fling Tournaments.

The Bulldogs (4-6) erupted for a season-high 10 runs in a 10-8, second-game victory over Central Connecticut. Tori Balta, Meg Johnson and Virginia Waldrop each had two hits. Balta was named to the Ivy League Honor Roll on Tuesday after going 3-for-6 in the two games. Two of her hits were doubles, including one that knocked in two runs to cap Yale's eight-run fifth inning.

Pitcher Chelsey Dunham was the hard-luck losing pitcher in the first game, despite allowing just three hits. Dunham is holding opponents to a .194 batting average and leads the Yale staff in wins (3), ERA (1.94), innings (36) and strikeouts (18).

Marist (7-14) has already played 21 games. Six of the Red Foxes' 10 games in Hawaii came against nationally ranked opponents, including a 1-0 loss to No. 2 California. Alyssa Zahka leads the team with a .304 batting average. Nicole DiVirgilio and Ashley Corross share the team lead in hits (18). Melanie White tops a deep pitching staff with a 3.67 ERA.

Yale and Marist are playing for the first time since 2010. Last year's doubleheader between the teams was cancelled because of rain. The all-time series is tied at 12-12.
