Bulldogs Drop Single Game At Providence
Yale Plays Home Opener Friday Vs. Rhode Island
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Friday's home opener comes at a good time for the Yale softball team. During the first two weeks of the season, Yale has played on both coasts and had all 14 of its games away from home. The latest trip took the Bulldogs to Providence on Thursday where they dropped a 9-0 decision to the Friars.
The two teams were supposed to play a doubleheader on Wednesday, but Tuesday's snow left the field unplayable. It had dried out by Thursday, but the temperature certainly wasn't much warmer.
The Friars (9-13) used the long ball to seize control. Megan Rollings belted a three-run home run in the second inning, and Kelsi Luttrell added a three-run shot in the second inning.
Providence outhit Yale 10-2
Yale's only other baserunner came in the third when Allie Souza led off with a single. She, though, was thrown out trying to steal.
The Bulldogs finally get to play in the friendly confines of Dewitt Family Field when they host Rhode Island in a doubleheader on Friday. The first pitch of the first game is slated for 3 p.m.
