  • Delgadillo, Balta Earn All-Ivy Recognition
    May 13, 2014
    Yale’s two leading hitters in Ivy League play both earned post-season recognition. Sophomore Lauren Delgadillo, who tied for fifth in the league with a .412 Ivy batting average, was named first team All-Ivy at first base, and senior Tori Balta, who hit .350 in league games and .380 overall, earned second team honors in the outfield.

    Sarah Onorato, who has been a fixture behind the plate in each of her first three seasons, has been elected captain of the 2014-15 Yale softball team. The announcement was made following a team vote at the post season brunch on Tuesday.

    The Yale softball team gathered one final time on Tuesday morning to celebrate the 2014 season at a brunch in the Kiphuth Trophy room inside Payne Whitney Gym. In addition to looking back at the year’s highlights, the team awards were presented.
  • Brennan, Delgadillo Help Bulldogs Split With Brown

    Yale saved its biggest comeback of the season for the final day. Hannah Brennan hit a three-run home run and Lauren Delgadillo added a two-run single as the Bulldogs rallied from a 5-1 deficit to beat Brown 7-5 in the first game of a Senior Day doubleheader at Dewitt Family Field.

  • Offense Erupts In Doubleheader Sweep At Brown

    Yale’s bats came alive in a big way at Brown on Friday. The Bulldogs banged out 21 hits, including three home runs, en route to a doubleheader sweep of the Bears. Sarah Onorato hit a grand slam, and Carolyn McGuire added a solo homer as the Bulldogs cruised to a 10-1 victory in the opener. In the second game, Tori Balta had three hits and scored a pair of runs in Yale’s 11-2 victory.
  • Saturday’s Senior Day Highlights Four-Game Series With Brown

    The Yale softball team wraps up the 2014 season with back-to-back doubleheaders against Brown this weekend. The two teams play Friday in Providence at 2 p.m. and then on Saturday at Dewitt Family Field at 12:30 p.m.

    Hannah Brennan hit her third home run of the season, which ties her for the team lead, and Lauren Delgadillo reached base in her 17th and 18th straight games but Yale dropped an Easter Sunday doubleheader to Harvard on a sunny but chilly afternoon at Dewitt Family Field.

    Yale threw a major scare into Ivy League unbeaten Harvard in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader. The Bulldogs had rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie the score in the fifth inning and seemed to have momentum on their side. Harvard, though, responded with three runs in the sixth and went on to a 6-2 win to complete a sweep.

    The first inning has not been kind to the Yale softball team this season. That was the case again Wednesday at Sacred Heart. The Pioneers scored three runs in the opening frame and went on to a 5-3 victory over the Bulldogs on a cold and windy afternoon at Pioneer Field.

    The Yale softball team returns to a familiar site for a non-league doubleheader on Wednesday. The Bulldogs play two against Sacred Heart at Pioneer Park starting at 3 p.m. In March, the Bulldogs hosted the Yale Invitational at Pioneer Park as Dewitt Family Field was recovering from the long winter.

    Tori Balta and Sarah Onorato both stayed hot at the plate, but the Yale softball team dropped a doubleheader at Dartmouth. The Big Green won the first game 5-1 and took the second game 5-3.

    Yale nearly handed Dartmouth its first Ivy League loss on Saturday. Lauren Delgadillo hit a dramatic two-run home run in the seventh inning to tie the score, but the Big Green scratched out a run in the bottom of the ninth to escape with a 3-2 victory.

    Yale’s offense came to life in Wednesday’s doubleheader with Hartford. The Bulldogs banged out 18 hits and drew 11 walks. The result was a split. Yale overcame a 3-0 deficit to win the first game 6-5 but dropped the nightcap 6-3.

Laina Do’s single scored Camille Weisenbach in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Bulldogs to a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Tigers on a sunny afternoon at Dewitt Family Field.

    Playing at home for the first time this season, Lauren Delgadillo belted her first homerun of the season and knocked in a pair of runs in the second game of a doubleheader and teammate Brittany Labbadia collected three hits to lead the Yale offense.

    It was a memorable day for Yale shortstop Brittany Labbadia, who hit her first career home run in the first game of a doubleheader with UMass. The Bulldogs, though, lost both games, falling 3-1 in the opener and 6-1 in the second game.

    The weather cooperated, at least a little bit, and the Yale softball team was able to get in its Ivy League opening doubleheader with Columbia on Sunday. The Bulldogs saw a comeback fall short in the opener, a 3-2 Columbia victory, and then dropped the second game 8-0.

    The preliminaries are over. The Yale softball team is ready to kick off Ivy League play this weekend. The Bulldogs have doubleheaders at Columbia on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Penn on Monday. The start time against the Quakers has been pushed back to 3 p.m.

    Yale’s doubleheader today at Fairfield has been postponed. The teams are looking for a date to reschedule, but it is not available at this time. The Bulldogs will next be in action on Friday when they open Ivy League play at Penn.
