Delgadillo, Balta Earn All-Ivy Recognition
Yale’s two leading hitters in Ivy League play both earned post-season recognition. Sophomore Lauren Delgadillo, who tied for fifth in the league with a .412 Ivy batting average, was named first team All-Ivy at first base, and senior Tori Balta, who hit .350 in league games and .380 overall, earned second team honors in the outfield.

Onorato Elected Captain of 2014-15 Bulldogs
Sarah Onorato, who has been a fixture behind the plate in each of her first three seasons, has been elected captain of the 2014-15 Yale softball team. The announcement was made following a team vote at the post season brunch on Tuesday.

The Yale softball team gathered one final time on Tuesday morning to celebrate the 2014 season at a brunch in the Kiphuth Trophy room inside Payne Whitney Gym. In addition to looking back at the year’s highlights, the team awards were presented.

Brennan, Delgadillo Help Bulldogs Split With Brown
Yale saved its biggest comeback of the season for the final day. Hannah Brennan hit a three-run home run and Lauren Delgadillo added a two-run single as the Bulldogs rallied from a 5-1 deficit to beat Brown 7-5 in the first game of a Senior Day doubleheader at Dewitt Family Field.

Offense Erupts In Doubleheader Sweep At Brown
Yale’s bats came alive in a big way at Brown on Friday. The Bulldogs banged out 21 hits, including three home runs, en route to a doubleheader sweep of the Bears. Sarah Onorato hit a grand slam, and Carolyn McGuire added a solo homer as the Bulldogs cruised to a 10-1 victory in the opener. In the second game, Tori Balta had three hits and scored a pair of runs in Yale’s 11-2 victory.

Hannah Brennan hit her third home run of the season, which ties her for the team lead, and Lauren Delgadillo reached base in her 17th and 18th straight games but Yale dropped an Easter Sunday doubleheader to Harvard on a sunny but chilly afternoon at Dewitt Family Field.

Delgadillo Shines Against Harvard
Yale threw a major scare into Ivy League unbeaten Harvard in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader. The Bulldogs had rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie the score in the fifth inning and seemed to have momentum on their side. Harvard, though, responded with three runs in the sixth and went on to a 6-2 win to complete a sweep.

Late Rally Falls Short At Sacred Heart
The first inning has not been kind to the Yale softball team this season. That was the case again Wednesday at Sacred Heart. The Pioneers scored three runs in the opening frame and went on to a 5-3 victory over the Bulldogs on a cold and windy afternoon at Pioneer Field.

Bulldogs Return To Sacred Heart For Doubleheader
The Yale softball team returns to a familiar site for a non-league doubleheader on Wednesday. The Bulldogs play two against Sacred Heart at Pioneer Park starting at 3 p.m. In March, the Bulldogs hosted the Yale Invitational at Pioneer Park as Dewitt Family Field was recovering from the long winter.

Tori Balta and Sarah Onorato both stayed hot at the plate, but the Yale softball team dropped a doubleheader at Dartmouth. The Big Green won the first game 5-1 and took the second game 5-3.

Yale nearly handed Dartmouth its first Ivy League loss on Saturday. Lauren Delgadillo hit a dramatic two-run home run in the seventh inning to tie the score, but the Big Green scratched out a run in the bottom of the ninth to escape with a 3-2 victory.

Yale will face the hottest team in the Ivy League when division play starts this weekend. The Bulldogs are at first-place Dartmouth for doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. The first pitch on both days is slated for 12:30 p.m. The Big Green has won its first eight Ivy League games.

Yale’s offense came to life in Wednesday’s doubleheader with Hartford. The Bulldogs banged out 18 hits and drew 11 walks. The result was a split. Yale overcame a 3-0 deficit to win the first game 6-5 but dropped the nightcap 6-3.

Laina Do’s single scored Camille Weisenbach in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Bulldogs to a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Tigers on a sunny afternoon at Dewitt Family Field.

Playing at home for the first time this season, Lauren Delgadillo belted her first homerun of the season and knocked in a pair of runs in the second game of a doubleheader and teammate Brittany Labbadia collected three hits to lead the Yale offense.

It was a memorable day for Yale shortstop Brittany Labbadia, who hit her first career home run in the first game of a doubleheader with UMass. The Bulldogs, though, lost both games, falling 3-1 in the opener and 6-1 in the second game.

The weather cooperated, at least a little bit, and the Yale softball team was able to get in its Ivy League opening doubleheader with Columbia on Sunday. The Bulldogs saw a comeback fall short in the opener, a 3-2 Columbia victory, and then dropped the second game 8-0.

The preliminaries are over. The Yale softball team is ready to kick off Ivy League play this weekend. The Bulldogs have doubleheaders at Columbia on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Penn on Monday. The start time against the Quakers has been pushed back to 3 p.m.

Bulldogs Drop Another Heartbreaker At Yale Invitational
The Bulldogs’ day at the Yale Invitational ended in heartbreaking fashion again. Elle Madsen’s two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Bryant to a 6-4 victory over Yale on a cold afternoon at Pioneer Park. Earlier in the day, the Bulldogs fell to Boston University 13-2.

The Yale softball team showed great resiliency on the first day of the Yale Invitational. After a disappointing 15-6 loss to Bryant in their first game, the Bulldogs bounced back and played well against a good Boston University squad. Unfortunately for Yale, the day ended in heartbreak.

The Yale Invitational will go on this weekend. It will just be held at Sacred Heart’s Pioneer Park. Despite the diligent work of the Yale grounds crew, Dewitt Family Field is still recovering from the harsh winter so Yale will host the tournament 25 miles away in Fairfield.

Yale saw first hand on its trip to Florida why Central Michigan is one of the top programs in the Midwest. The Chippewas advanced to the NCAA Tournament last year and seem poised to return in 2014.

Late Rally Powers Bulldogs Over Seton Hall
Yale used a late rally to knock off Seton Hall in its first game of the day at the Michele Smith Spring Break Tournament. Trailing 2-0, the Bulldogs erupted for five runs in the sixth inning en route to a 5-2 victory over the Pirates.

Dunham’s Gem Helps Yale Beat Butler
Yale got a pair of very well pitched games on its first day at the Michele Smith Spring Break Tournament. In 13 innings, Yale pitchers did not allow an earned run. Chelsey Dunham tossed a two-hitter as the Bulldogs edged Butler 4-2 in their second game of the day. Earlier, freshman Lindsay Efflandt was excellent in the circle, but an error helped Green Bay score two runs in the fifth inning en route to a 2-0 victory.

For the second consecutive night, the Yale softball team found itself under the bright lights taking on a nationally prominent opponent in an unfriendly stadium. The Bulldogs again held their own before dropping a 4-0 decision to Central Florida.

Yale faced a big challenge on the first day of its stay in Florida. The Bulldogs took on two teams that have already played a combined 47 games. Yale more than held its own but ultimately found itself on the short end in both games.

The Yale softball team has embarked on its spring trip to Florida. The Bulldogs will play nine games during their stay, starting on Tuesday against Central Michigan at the University of South Florida. Five of the games are this weekend in Clearwater. The Bulldogs also will make a trip to Orlando, facing Florida Atlantic and Central Florida on Wednesday.

Solid pitching and timely hitting helped Yale earn its first victory of the young season. Kristen Leung allowed only four hits in 5.1 innings, and the Bulldogs scored four late runs en route to a 4-1 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson in their final game of the Spartan Clash.

Bulldogs Bang Out 19 Hits In Season Openers; Fall To Wagner & Norfolk State
Yale put a bunch of runners on base in its first two games of the season. The Bulldogs, though, had trouble getting them home, and the result was a pair of close losses. Yale had 14 hits in its first game, a 9-7 loss to Wagner. The Bulldogs then outhit Norfolk State 5-4 but suffered a 3-1 loss. Yale left nine runners on base in both games.

Weather has forced changes to the season-opening Spartan Clash in Norfolk, Va.. With the forecast calling for heavy thunderstorms on Friday, the tournament has been shortened to just Saturday and Sunday. Yale will now kick off the season on Saturday, facing Wagner at 9 a.m. and then Norfolk State at 11. On Sunday, the Bulldogs face Fairleigh Dickinson at 11 a.m.

Yale To Host Clinic Sunday, Mar. 2
The Yale softball team will host a Pitching/Infield/Outfield/Hitting Clinic inside Coxe Cage on Sunday, March 2 open to girls ages 8-18 years old. The pitching/infield/outfield sessions run from 10 a.m. to 11:30, while the hitting session is from noon to 2 p.m.

City Series Title Highlights Fall Season
The Yale softball team capped a successful fall season by winning the New Haven City Series on Saturday. The Bulldogs scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat New Haven 4-3 and then beat Southern Connecticut 12-6 in the championship game.
