Yale Falls To Butler 5-4 In First Game

Carlin Hagmaier's double scored Annie Tarte in the eighth inning to lead Yale to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Western Michigan in Clearwater, Fla.

Camille Weisenbach went 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Bulldogs, who notched their first win of the season.

Western Michigan (11-11) scored first in the third inning, but Yale answered with two in the fifth. Shelby Kennedy plated the first run with an RBI ground out, and Weisenbach scored the go-ahead run on an error.

Western Michigan, though, tied it with a run in the bottom of the seventh, forcing extra innings.

Terra Jerpbak pitched the first 6.1 innings and struck out eight. Lindsay Efflandt tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win.

In their first game of the day, Yale fell to Butler 5-4. The Bulldogs rallied from a 4-0 deficit to tie the score at 4-4, but Butler scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth.

One of the highlights for the Bulldogs was a long home run by Madison Sack.

Yale plays one game on Sunday – Villanova at 11:15 a.m.
