Kennedy, Tarte, Hagmaier All With Two Hits For Bulldogs

The Bulldogs went toe-to-toe with Villanova of the Big East before dropping a 7-4 decision in Clearwater, Fla.

The game was tied at 2-2 entering the seventh inning before the Wildcats scored five times in the top of the frame.

Yale kept battling, scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn't come all the way back.

Shelby Kennedy, Annie Tarte and Carlin Hagmaier all had two hits for the Bulldogs.

Yale grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a Laina Do RBI single. Terra Jerpbak scored later on an attempted double steal. Do was thrown out at second on the play.

The Wildcats answered with two runs in the second inning and it stayed that way until the seventh.

The big blow for Villanova was a grand slam from Nikki Alden.

Kennedy and Hagmaier had RBI singles for the Bulldogs in the seventh.

Freshman Giovy Webb also had a hit in the game for Yale.

Villanova is coached by Maria DiBernardi, whose daughter Deanna played at Yale and graduated in 2009.

The Bulldogs are off on Monday and then they have two games on Tuesday – Manhattan at 12:30 p.m. and Colgate at 3 p.m.
