Strong Pitching Leads Tigers To Sweep

A pair of Princeton pitchers cooled off Yale's hot bats, at least for one day. After scoring 12 runs and banging out 22 hits in Saturday's sweep at Cornell, the Bulldogs were limited to one run and four hits in losing a pair of games to the Tigers.

Claire Klausner struck out five and yielded only one run in Princeton's 9-1 victory in the first game, and Erica Nori tossed an efficient two-hit shutout in the second game, a 2-0 Tiger win.

There were some highlights for Yale. Most notably, Francesca Casalino hit her first career home run in the opener to account for the Bulldogs' run. It was Yale's fourth homer of the weekend.

Casalino also pitched very well in the second game, limiting Princeton's high-powered offense to only two runs. She struck out four and walked one.

It looked like the Bulldogs would pick up right where they left off from Saturday when Casalino went deep in the first inning of the first game. Princeton, though, answered with four runs in the bottom of the first, scored once in the second and three times in the third to seize control.

Madison Sack continued her strong weekend performance by singling up the middle in the second for Yale's only other hit of the game.

Yale's best scoring chance in the second game came in the fifth. With one out, Allison Skinner singled through the left side. Rachel Paris later walked, but Nori worked out of the jam.

The Bulldogs' only other baserunner came when Cristina Teems singled leading off the third.

The game was scoreless until the fourth when Princeton's Keeley Walsh doubled home pinch-runner Kaitlyn Waslawski.

The Tigers added an insurance run in the fifth on Kaylee Grant's RBI single.

After playing their first 26 games away from home, the Bulldogs finally will get to see Dewitt Family Field when they host a doubleheader against Penn on Friday. The first pitch of the first game is slated for 2 p.m. Yale then hosts Columbia on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
