Tarte, Hagmaier Both With Two Hits

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Yale wrapped up play at the Grand Canyon University Purple Classic on Sunday, falling to the host school 6-3.

The Bulldogs managed a season-high nine hits, including two each from Annie Tarte and Carlin Hagmaier.

Yale jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Shelby Kennedy and Olivia Vinyard both scored, Sydney Grobman knocked in a run on a fielder's choice, and Kortney Ponce delivered a clutch, two-out RBI single.

GCU, though, slowly chipped away at the lead, scoring single runs in the first, third and fifth innings.

Grand Canyon then erupted for three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

First years Olivia Sardoff and Maya Seifert also had hits for the Bulldogs.

Yale heads to the Towson Invitational in Maryland next weekend. The Bulldogs play Hartford in their first game at 10 a.m. on Friday.
