Tarte Doubles For Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Yale had opportunities to stage a comeback vs. Fairfield on Wednesday. The Stags' pitchers, though, did well working out of trouble, and Fairfield held on for a 3-0 victory at 5K Corral Field at DeWitt Family Stadium.

The Bulldogs now turn their attention to the start of Ivy League play. They host Penn in a three-game series starting with a doubleheader on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Trailing 3-0 after three innings, Yale threatened for the first time in the fourth. Shelby Kennedy walked and Annie Tarte was hit by a pitch. The two later advanced to second and third but were left stranded.

In the fifth, the Bulldogs loaded the bases after a single by Katie Tews, a walk to Lindsay Kuss and a bunt single from Kennedy. Fairfield pitcher Lauryn Rhinehart, though, got out of the jam.

Yale's final chance came in the sixth when Tarte doubled and Terra Jerpbak singled but both were left on base.

First year Nic Conway tossed 4.0 innings of scoreless relief for the Bulldogs. She allowed only three hits.
