Bulldogs Fall Twice On Opening Day

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Despite getting a pair of well-pitched games, the Bulldogs fell twice at the Rebel Games on the opening day of the season. Yale lost to Youngstown State 2-0 in the first game and then was beaten 4-0 by Creighton. Jillian Miles pitched four scoreless innings and had four strikeouts in the opener, and Peggy Hunt allowed only one earned run in four innings in Game 2.
Karlie Bunell pitched a one-hitter and struck out five for Youngstown State. Yale's only hit was a single by Beth Pavlicek in the fourth inning. Youngstown State (2-6) scored both its runs on a throwing error in the bottom of the sixth.
In the second game, the Bulldogs were no-hit by Creighton's Abby Johnson, who struck out 10 and also had two hits, including an RBI single. Melanie Dorsey was 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Blue Jays (8-4).
