Bulldogs Hold Off La Salle 3-2; Fall To South Dakota State
March 9, 2006
KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Kyli Hanson's two-run homer in the fifth inning snapped a scoreless tie and helped Yale to a 3-2 victory over La Salle at the Rebel Games. Rebecca Wojciak pitched a complete game, allowing only five hits while striking out five to earn her third win of the season. The Bulldogs dropped their first game of the day to South Dakota State 7-0.
Against La Salle, Yale led 3-0 entering the seventh inning, but Megan Berry's two-run single pulled the Explorers within 3-2. Wojciak, though, struck out Kate Gulkis with the tying run on second to end the game.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth. Kate Meserve drew a walk to lead off the inning and scored when Hanson hit her second home run of the season, a shot to centerfield that deflected off the top of the fence.
Against South Dakota State, Torres and Meserve both had two hits for the Bulldogs. Christina Guerland added a double. Yale's best scoring chance came in the second. Kathleen Edwards reached on an error, and Meserve singled, but both were left stranded.
South Dakota State scored four runs in the second, one in the fourth and two in the sixth.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Friday. They play Sacred Heart at 12:30 p.m. and Wagner at 4:10 p.m.
