POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Rebecca Wojciak and KR Ling both pitched outstanding games, but Yale dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Marist. Megan Rigos struck out 10 and scattered seven hits in a 2-1 Red Foxes victory in the first game. In the second game, Pamela de la Llave hit a solo homer, and Caitlin Carpentier pitched 6.2 shutout innings in a 1-0 Marist victory.
In the first game, Wojciak allowed only seven hits but one was a two-run homer by Melissa Giordano in the fifth inning.
Trailing 2-0 in the seventh, the Bulldogs rallied. Lauren Huddleton led off with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Mariclaire Rebman's ground out. Rigos, though, retired the next two hitters to end the game.
Yale (8-8) nearly scored in the top of the fifth inning. Allie Canulli led off with a single and moved to second on Courtney Blachford's sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Katie Yanagisawa hit a long fly ball to left-centerfield, but de la Llave made a leaping catch at the fence.
Giordano had three hits and Alison Catenacci was 2-for-3 for Marist (8-12).
The Bulldogs' best scoring chance came in the seventh. With two out, pinch-hitter Huddleston walked. Timm followed with a single to left. Heather Viola then came on to relieve Carpentier and retired the next hitter.
Yale is back in action on Wednesday, hosting Army in a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m.
