PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Courtney Jenkins' two-run homer in the fifth inning snapped a 4-4 tie and helped Brown to a 7-4 victory over Yale in the second game of an Ivy League doubleheader. The Bears (19-18, 10-4 Ivy) won the first game 8-3 and with the two wins earned a share of the Ivy League title with Cornell. Kristy Kwiatkowski went 3-for-4 for the Bulldogs in the first game, while Meredith Parks had a pair of hits in the nightcap. Yale ends its season with a 30-22 overall record and a 7-7 Ivy mark.
The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the first game. Christina Guerland singled, moved to second when Chelsea Kanyer reached on catcher's interference and later scored on an error. Brown, though, took advantage of two Yale errors and scored five runs in the bottom of the first. The big hit was a two-run single by Andrea Miranda.
The Bears added three runs in the fifth on Jenkins' two-run double and an RBI single by Melissa Ota.
Niki Haab doubled home a run in the sixth for the Bulldogs and Kwiatkowski had an RBI single in the seventh.
In the second game, Yale took a 3-0 lead in the fourth. Guerland started the rally with a double. After Kanyer walked, Beth Pavlicek reached on an error to load the bases. Kwitakowski followed with a two-run single, and Parks then singled to left, which drove home Pavlicek.
Brown answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Kwiatkowski's sacrifice fly in the fifth tied it at 4-4, but Jenkins hit a two-run homer to left, and Uchenna Omokaro added an RBI single in the sixth.
