2009 Campaign Kicks Off Sunday In Sunny Florida

March 5, 2009

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - You wouldn't know it by looking at Dewitt Family Field, which is covered in snow following Monday's storm, but the 2009 Yale softball season is about to get started. The Bulldogs leave for Florida on Friday and are scheduled to play 12 times at the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, starting on Sunday against Maine at 3 p.m. and Bryant at 5 p.m. Live stats from each game of the tournament should be available from GameTracker.

Yale has enjoyed success at the Rebel Games recently. In the last three years, the Bulldogs are 26-10 (.722) in the tournament.

Yale will see a number of familiar faces, but most will have the benefit of already playing. The Bulldogs' first five opponents have all played at least five games. Maine, the opponent in the opener on Sunday, will be taking the field for the 21st time and has been in Florida since Feb. 27. Also on the schedule are Butler, Bucknell, Eastern Kentucky, La Salle, Valparaiso, which won a school-record 30 games last year, Youngstown State, South Dakota, Army and Wagner.

Yale features an experienced squad. Eight starters and 14 letterwinners, including four seniors, are back from last year's team that won 20 games.
