April 13, 2009

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Saturday's rain in the Northeast has forced the Yale softball team into a busy two-day stretch. The Bulldogs will make up Saturday's doubleheader against Harvard on Tuesday at 2 p.m. (Live Stats ). Yale then returns to the friendly confines of Dewitt Family Field to host Sacred Heart on Wednesday beginning at 3 p.m. (Game 1 GameTracker | Game 2 GameTracker).

The Bulldogs (16-16, 5-5 Ivy) won both games against the Crimson on Sunday, taking the first game 7-4 and winning the nightcap 4-2. It was the Yale's first doubleheader sweep of Harvard since 1994. One of the highlights came in the fifth inning of the first game when Megan Enyeart hit the 37th double of her career, a new Yale record. Enyeart currently leads the team in doubles (8) and RBI (20) and shares the team lead in home runs (3).

Katie Yanagisawa extended her hitting streak to eight with a single in the first inning of the second game. She is batting .385 during the stretch. In her last eight games, Mariclaire Rebman is batting .391 with five RBI.

Yale and Harvard enter Tuesday's doubleheader tied for second place in the Ivy League's North Division. Both teams are 5-5. Dartmouth is 9-3 after winning three of four games against Brown over the weekend. Yale hosts a four-game series with the Big Green this weekend.

Sacred Heart (11-20) had won four of its last six games prior to playing a doubleheader against Long Island on Monday. Taylor Froelich leads Sacred Heart in batting average (.308), hits (30) and home runs (6). Betsy Harvey has a team-high 14 RBI. Jen Russell has started 16 games in the circle and has a 1.82 ERA. In 115.2 innings, she has 89 strikeouts. The Pioneers have outhomered their opponents 15-5.

Sacred Heart and Yale split a doubleheader last year. Deanna DiBernardi and Kayla Kuretich combined on a two-hitter in a 6-0 Bulldog victory in the first game. Adrian Fitzsimon's double in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted the Pioneers to a 3-2 victory in the second game.
