NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Senior pitcher Deanna DiBernardi could not have asked for a more thrilling end to her Yale career. On Saturday, she tossed a no-hitter in a 3-0 victory over Brown, and on Sunday, she beat the Bears again, this time pitching a six-hitter and striking out seven in a 5-1 victory. Today, she was rewarded for her performances by being named the Ivy League Pitcher of the Week.
DiBernardi, a Newtown, Pa., native, finished with four strikeouts and two walks in Saturday's no-hitter. She set down the first six batters she faced before issuing a leadoff walk in the third inning, and retired the last eight batters in a row to complete the gem.
DiBernardi led the Yale pitching staff in ERA (2.05), wins (10) and opponent batting average (.225). She completed her outstanding career with 19 wins and a 2.93 earned run average
The Bulldogs won their last five games to finish with a 22-22 overall record and an 11-9 Ivy mark.
