NEW HAVEN, Conn. — No. 4 Yale (14-3, 4-2 Ivy) saw its hopes for a share of the Ivy League title vanish Friday as the Bulldogs suffered a 7-2 loss to No. 1 Harvard (11-0, 6-0 Ivy) at the Brady Squash Center.
With the win, the Crimson remain undefeated on the season. While underdog Yale had hoped to press the defending national champions — as it did in a close 5-4 loss during the Ivy Scrimmages earlier this year — Harvard managed to pull away for a decisive win. The match was close than the score indicates, as Yale dropped 3-2 decisions at No. 2 and No. 4.
The bright spots for the Bulldogs came from freshmen Jenny Scherl and Shihui Mao, both of whom claimed 3-0 victories over their Harvard opponents. Sophomore Georgia Blatchford also notched a win in the No. 10 exhibition match. The success of these young players in this high-stakes match bodes well for the future of the Yale program.
Yale will close out its regular season this Sunday with a trip to face No. 8 Dartmouth. The Bulldogs will look to bounce back with a win to give them some positive momentum heading into the Howe Cup, which begins on Friday, Feb. 21.
