Bulldogs Down Cardinals, 9-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Yale women's squash got 2008 off to a good start on Saturday, defeating Wesleyan 9-0 in the first of two matches against NESCAC opponents. Returning from injury to play for the first time this season was junior Alia Aziz, who picked up a 3-0 (9-1, 9-0, 9-0) win over Elizabeth Demakos in the No. 4 slot.

The Bulldogs did not drop a single game in the victory. Senior captain Miranda Ranieri picked up a 9-0, 9-0, 9-0 win against Casey Simchik at No. 1.

Also impressive were the three freshman in the Bulldog top nine. No. 2 Logan Greer defeated Andrea Guiliano 3-0 (9-2, 9-0, 9-2), No. 3 Sarah Toomey beat Gwynne Hunter 3-0 (9-1, 9-0, 9-0), and No. 5 Caroline Reigeluth downed Elizabeth Larner 3-0 (9-2, 9-0, 9-1).

Seniors Sarah Barenbaum and Elisabeth Hill continued the Bulldog domination down the rest of the ladder. Barenbaum, playing at No. 6, defeated Keera Bhandari 3-0 (9-1, 9-0, 9-0) and No. 7 Hill beat Katie Kalafus 3-0 (9-0, 9-1, 9-0).

Rounding out the Bulldog wins were No. 8 Kaitlin Vinci, who beat Caroline Janin 3-0 (9-3, 9-0, 9-1) and No. 9 Tara Wadhwa, who defeated Nina Wasserman 3-0 (9-1, 9-0, 9-0).
