Yale Falls to Trinity 5-4

HARTFORD, Conn. - No. 5 Yale dropped to 6-2 this season after losing to No. 3 Trinity 5-4 Wednesday in Hartford, Conn. Sophomore Sarah Toomey, junior Alia Aziz, freshman Alexandra Van Arkel, and senior Tara Wadhwa won matches for the Bulldogs in the loss.

At No. 2, Toomey cruised to a 9-2, 9-3, 9-6 win over Nayelly Hernandez. Aziz had to battle to a five game victory at No. 3. She defeated opponent Tehani Guruge 5-9, 9-6, 9-4, 6-9, 9-7.

Playing No. 6, Van Arkel won in four games over Emily Paton 9-6, 10-9, 5-9, 9-2. Wadhwa pulled out a 10-8, 4-9, 4-9, 9-3, 9-7 win over Emery Holton at No. 7.

Those four victories were not enough for the Bulldogs as they struggled in every other match, losing the other five matches three games to none each.

Yale will be back in action this weekend when they host Wesleyan, Columbia, Bates College, and Franklin & Marshall in the Yale Round Robin.
