Elis Cruise at Constable Invitational

Jan. 27, 2006

PRINCETON, N.J. - It was mostly smooth sailing for the Elis in the first day of competition at the Constable Invitational in Princeton, N.J. In the top division, four of five Elis advanced to the quarterfinals.

The biggest Bulldog victory came from senior Amy Gross, who defeated Trinity's top player, Larissa Stephenson, 10-9 in the fifth game of an incredibly intense match. Gross exacted some revenge against the Bantams following a 3-2 to loss to the Bantam's No. 4 Vaidehi Reddy on Wednesday night.

In addition to Gross, Catherine McLeod and Miranda Ranieri both advanced to the quarterfinals with relative ease. McLeod downed Princeton's Carly Grabowski 3-0, while Ranieri defeated Trinity's Maria Restrepo 3-1. Defending Constable champion Michelle Quibell reached the round of 16 following her opponent's withdrawal.

In the 5.5 bracket, Nicola Shiels and Kate Rapisarda both advanced to the quarters, as did Elisabeth Hill, Tara Wadhwa and Jessica Balderston in the 4.5 division.
