Bulldogs Stay Perfect

Feb. 4, 2006

PRINCETON, N.J. - The No. 1 ranked Bulldogs (8-0, 4-0 Ivy) relied on strength at the top to defeat Princeton (4-1, 3-1) this afternoon at the Tigers' Jadwin Squash Courts. The two-time defending national champions won matches at the top six positions to secure the 6-3 win over their Ivy rivals.

Michelle Quibell, the nation's top-ranked player, dominated Princeton's Claire Rein-Weston, relinquishing only one point while cruising to a 3-0 victory.

At No. 2, Miranda Ranieri overcame an early deficit for the second consecutive match. Playing against Casey Riley, Ranieri dropped the first game 9-1 and then gutted out a 10-8 win in the second before easily winning the match's final two games.

No. 3 Catherine McLeod disposed of Ali Pearson in three games, while Amy Gross continued her strong play in the season's second half, battling back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Princeton's Lena Neufeld at No. 4.

"Princeton was really deep, but our top six are just so tough, head coach Dave Talbott said.

Lauren McCrery and Kate Rapisarda also won for Yale. Princeton picked up victories at No. 7, 8, and 9, but it was not enough to overcome Yale's dominance at the top.

The Elis return to action on Feb. 8, when they host Amherst (5-9).
